Network Stability Testing

Slow-loading websites, a video call that freezes, or constant interruptions when listening to Spotify: we will all agree that network stability is just as important as bandwidth or speeds. The secret to keeping the network up and running at all times, without delays? Stability monitoring and testing, under reproducible, realistic circumstances.

Stability Testing: Challenges

Just like network performance, network stability is a complex interplay of many distinct factors, that make it quite complex to test. To analyze the network over time and under changing conditions you need expertise and state-of-the-art measurement tools that tick the following boxes:

āœ” Large-scale and long duration

As your network stability will vary according to the number of devices, hosts, users, and applications, you will need a set-up of the same scale for effective testing. Moreover, it is key to be able to perform long-running tests (hours, days, weeks).

āœ” Historical data and tools

These are a must to be able to analyze your network over time, compare its behavior in the past and present and perform successful root-cause analysis.

āœ” Reproducible

To measure progress, make sure your tools and environment support reproducible tests, and can control and monitor the input (traffic generator) and output, plus all the devices in-between if needed (monitoring + traffic generator/analyzer).ā€Æ

āœ” Accurate and powerful

Use synchronized measurement tools to monitorā€Æone-way latency on large setups, with many ports and at different speeds. And ensure your tools are up to supporting the skyrocketing speed enabled by new technologies like GPON, NBASE-T, 5G, 10G DOCSIS, etc.

āœ” End-to-end

Include all components that can impact performance. For Wi-Fi and mobile (4G/5G ), for example, the end devices are key.

āœ” Realistic

Use realistic traffic, a realistic environment, and realistic devices (e.g. network devices or end devices) to ensure testing that mimics real-world networks.

How we meet your challenges

Network and device testing has been our core business, at Excentis, ever since our foundation. As well as the experience and the expertise, we also have the measurement tools that tick all the above boxes.

Here is how we can help:

Reproducible, accurate testing with ByteBlowerĀ® and ByteBlower Endpoint

Our ByteBlower traffic generator/analyzer and ByteBlower Endpoint, as its mobile extension, were designed to monitor and measure the performance of wired and Wi-Fi networks and products, respectively. Exceptionally intuitive, accurate and powerful, these help you to cover every blind spot ā€“ and ensure truly outstanding network performance. Need data from other sources (e.g. logs, SNMP, other test and measurement equipment, ā€¦) to include in your analysis, so that you can truly understand the network stability? Call in our integration services!
