Introduced back in the 1990s, PON (Passive Optical Network) technology delivers advanced data, video, and voice services to users by using fiber optic cables, instead of copper. Over the years, the technology has continued to develop through multiple iterations with differing wavelengths, speeds, and components: from GPON and XG-PON to today’s XGS-PON and 25G/50G-EPON technology.

PON networks, and next-gen networks in particular offer multiple advantages:
