Excentis Hosts Successful M-CMTS and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 Interop

December 18, 2009 - Ghent (Belgium) From December 7 till 11, seven vendors (ARRIS, BigBand Networks, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, Hitron Technologies, Motorola, and TANDBERG Television) tested their Modular CMTS and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 products in Excentis' labs to successfully demonstrate interoperability and the capabilities of the products.

For a whole week, equipment vendors and manufacturers had a unique opportunity to test their equipment in conjunction with other manufacturers' equipment in the test lab of Excentis in Ghent. This event was an important milestone to demonstrate the capabilities of the Modular CMTS and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 equipment that are used for broadband internet on cable operators' networks. Live demonstrations were organised for cable operators in cooperation with Cable Europe Labs.

"Excentis has the expertise, is well-equipped and functions as a neutral organisation to bring competitors together for a successful interoperability event", says Luc Martens, CEO of Excentis.

"During the testing week, participating products achieved a high level of interoperability", says Wim De Ketelaere, CTO of Excentis. "This event gave developers the opportunity to further refine their products and identify any remaining interoperability issues with multiple vendors' products", he continues.

"Besides product interoperability, once more the promised speeds of the EuroDOCSIS 3.0 and M-CMTS architectures were proven. By using the Excentis ByteBlower® Traffic Generator, speeds of 393 Mbit/s in the downstream and 116 Mbit/s in the upstream were measured over EuroDOCSIS 3.0 cable modems", Kristof Sercu, manager testing services at Excentis, concludes.
