Excentis Hosted Successful IPv6 Interop for the European Cable operators
December 19, 2011 - Ghent (Belgium) - From December 5 till 9, eighteen vendors (A10 Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Arris, AVM, Broadcom, Casa Systems, Cisco, Compal Broadband Networks, EchoStar Europe, Hitron Technologies, Incognito Software, Intel, Juniper Networks, Kathrein, Motorola Mobility, Netgear, Technicolor, Ubee Interactive Europe) tested their IPv6 enabled CPE, CMTS, CGN and provisioning products in Excentis' labs to successfully demonstrate IPv6 interoperability and capabilities of the products.
For a whole week, chip and equipment vendors had a unique opportunity to test and refine the IPv6 capabilities of their equipment in the test lab of Excentis in Ghent. This event was an important milestone to demonstrate the IPv6 capabilities of EuroDOCSISTM CPE and CMTS, Carrier Grade NAT (CGN) equipment and provisioning software that are used on cable operators' networks.
Participating vendors were:
- With EuroDOCSISTM CPE: Arris, AVM, Broadcom, Cisco, Compal Broadband Networks, EchoStar Europe, Hitron Technologies, Intel, Kathrein, Netgear, Technicolor, and Ubee Interactive Europe
- With EuroDOCSISTM CMTS: Arris, Casa Systems, Cisco, and Motorola Mobility
- With Carrier Grade NAT: A10 Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco and Juniper Networks
- With provisioning systems: Cisco and Incognito Software
Live demonstrations were organised on December 8 for cable operators in cooperation with Cable Europe Labs.
"The Cable industry has been preparing for the important and necessary transition from IPv4 to IPv6 for some time now. Due to our members' rapid growth, Cable Europe Labs has increased our focus on validating technical solution and transition strategies. The recent interoperability event hosted by Excentis, successfully demonstrated the great strides made by key vendor partners. It is a major industry milestone", says Peter Percosan, Managing Director of Cable Europe Labs.
"Excentis has the expertise and a fully compliant IPv6 test lab with dedicated test equipment including its ByteBlower traffic generator/analyser to support this interoperability testing. Moreover as neutral partner for the cable operator's industry, Excentis is well positioned to bring competitors together for a successful interoperability event", says Luc Martens, CEO of Excentis.
"During the testing week, participating products achieved a high level of IPv6 interoperability", says Wim De Ketelaere, CTO of Excentis. "This event gave developers the opportunity to further refine their products and identify any remaining interoperability issues with multiple vendors' products", he continues.
"The products have been tested for IPv6 interoperability in the areas of ED2.0+IPv6, ED3.0 and eRouter. Also several IPv6 migration techniques were demonstrated successfully, like Dual-Stack Lite, NAT64/DNS64 and NAT444", Kristof Sercu, manager testing services at Excentis, concludes.

ByteBlower gets USB support
May 2, 2011 -- Gent (Belgium) -- Excentis announces a new extension on ByteBlower, a cost-saving IP testing tool. This new version is unveiled at the ANGA Cable Show in Cologne. ByteBlower helps network equipment vendors, network operators and enterprises increase efficiency and cost-savings in their IP testing without compromising on quality. With ByteBlower, they can easily and accurately assess the performance and quality parameters of IP networks and/or equipment under the most diverse conditions in order to meet the strictest industry requirements. This new add-on provides the capability to test network devices using the USB interface.
ByteBlower is the result of years of testing expertise and brings down obstacles to IP testing. Thanks to its competitive price, low maintenance cost and ease-of-use, it gives network operators or testing labs the opportunity to carry out their own in-house testing. It provides larger enterprises an extendable and future proof test platform. It comes with a high number of ports, each of which can connect to different networks or network devices.
With this new add-on, users can easily test network equipment over USB interfaces. Just as any other port on ByteBlower, a network device connected over USB can be used to simulate one or more hosts, applications ... This way, users can verify the quality the same way they do for standard ethernet interfaces.
ByteBlower and the USB add-on will be on display at the ANGA Cable Show in Cologne on May 3, 4 and 5, 2011, at booth H21 in hall 10.2.

VoIPexaminer gets SIP support
May 2, 2011 -- Gent (Belgium) -- Excentis announces a new release of VoIPexaminer, a software solution designed to monitor the quality of the VoIP telephony service of cable networks. The new release gives VoIPexaminer support for SIP deployments. Together with the existing NCS support this means that VoIPexaminer is now ready for use by any cable operator.
After the successful introduction of VoIPexaminer at ANGA last year, Excentis fulfils the needs of current and future customers by introducing SIP support at this year's ANGA Cable Show. For current customers with NCS-based infrastructures this means that they can continue to enjoy VoIPexaminer's key features like accurate network problem detection, and insight in call quality and the evolution thereof, while they expand their operations to include SIP-based service offerings.
Operators using SIP for the VoIP telephony service can now also benefit from VoIPexaminer's unique DOCSIS topology-aware monitoring. "Because problems can be fixed much faster, sometimes even before end users experience them, end user satisfaction is increased and fewer calls are made to the helpdesk", says Wim De Ketelaere, CTO at Excentis. "In turn, fewer calls to the helpdesk and less time spent troubleshooting lowers operational costs as an additional benefit - a point well worth stressing."
VoIPexaminer will be on display at the ANGA Cable Show in Cologne on May 3, 4 and 5, 2011, at booth H21 in hall 10.2.
